For Individuals

Taking the strengths assessment 5 years ago and seeing my results was a pivotal moment in my life. It was the first time I was able to objectively see and appreciate the good I bring to the world, and it was both validating and exhilarating. It was like seeing myself through God's eyes, and my life hasn't been the same since.

I love strengths because it truly celebrates what is amazing and unique about each one of us. And when I say "unique," I mean it: The odds of someone having the same top 5 strengths as you do—in the same order—is 1 in 33 million. That's right, you are 1 in 33 million! There are only 238 other people on the planet that can bring your unique cocktail of strengths to the world. I think that's worth celebrating, don't you?

I also love strengths because yes, of course, we all have areas we are not as strong in. That's human nature. Strengths doesn't ignore the fact that we have weaknesses. Rather, it teaches us how to partner with others to fill in the gaps where we are not as strong.

Pair the assessment with individual strengths coaching to:

  • Tap into greater self-awareness
  • Discover what you naturally do best
  • Learn how to develop your greatest talents into strengths
  • Maximize your personal and professional potential
  • Make smarter decisions

For Couples

It's natural to feel that if only your partner saw the world the way you did, life would be easier. The dishwasher would be loaded correctly every time or you'd both care just as deeply about color-coding the closet. And maybe life would be easier for awhile, but "sameness" is not the key to a happy, successful relationship.

So, what is the key? Gallup, the organization behind the CliftonStrengths (formerly StrengthsFinder) assessment, would say (and I agree) that the key is first understanding your own strengths, then understanding your partner's strengths. Not having the same strengths. Understanding them.

Gallup's data repeatedly confirms that compatibility does not equal sameness. Compatibility is about knowing what makes yourself tick, what makes your partner tick, and then giving each other grace and permission to lean into those things.

Pair the assessment with couples strengths coaching to:

  • Better understanding of yourself and your partner
  • Improved conflict resolution
  • Deeper empathy, grace, and compassion for each other
"My wife and I have always known we were opposites in a lot of ways. From the strengths assessment, we learned that four of my wife’s top 5 strengths were amongst my lowest-ranked strengths and vice versa! Our couple strengths session with Katherine helped put language to our differences. Katherine provided us with practical ideas of how to lean on one another and use each other’s strengths instead of butting heads trying to achieve sameness. While we still have work to do, we have much more awareness of our blind spots and a deeper understanding of one another!"

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to purchase the individual strengths assessment before I can get individual or couples strengths coaching?

Yes. To receive strengths coaching specifically, you must first purchase the individual strengths assessment. If you have already taken your assessment and have your report, you do not need to retake the assessment. We can use the report you have.

Do I need to purchase individual strengths coaching before my partner and I can do couples strengths coaching?

No, you do not need individual strengths coaching before you can participate in couples strengths coaching. It helps to know your own strengths first before coming together as a couple, but it is not required.

Is this the same as StrengthsFinder?

CliftonStrengths used to be called StrengthsFinder. So yes, they are the same thing. If you have taken the StrengthsFinder assessment and still have your report, you do not need to retake the assessment.

I took this assessment years ago. Should I retake it now to get updated results?

The short answer is no.

Gallup says you should only take the assessment once in your life. Research indicates that your core strengths are relatively stable over time and retaking the assessment is unlikely to significantly change your results. Gallup recommends focusing on developing your existing strengths rather than retaking the test to get a new set of strengths, as the first attempt is considered the most accurate reflection of your natural talents.

When might it be reasonable to retake a strengths assessment?
  • Significant life changes: If you've experienced a major life event like a career change, personal trauma, or significant personal growth, your strengths might have shifted, warranting a re-evaluation.
  • To track progress: In some cases, taking the assessment periodically could be used to monitor how well you are applying your strengths in a specific role or situation.
What happens during couples strengths coaching?

During couples strengths coaching, we'll review each of your top 5 strengths, as well as your bottom 3-5 strengths.

The session is very casual and often leads to great discussion and "aha" moments as you gain deeper insight, understanding, and empathy for the gifts you are each bringing to your relationship.

This is not therapy, and I do not play the role of a therapist. This is a fun but extremely insightful and beneficial exercise designed to bring couples closer together.
